Dear Valued Partner,
You may be aware that over the last 10 days a bad actor has been sending “spoof” emails to law firms that look like they came from noreply@lms.com. These emails vary in terms of their content but are conveyancing related and all appear to be from that email address. We are confident that our email systems have not been compromised and that the bad actor is simply impersonating us.
We have existing email security measures, such as SPF, in place and have added additional capabilities this week (DKIM) to protect against criminals impersonating Legal Marketing Services Limited. These technologies help ensure that emails claiming to be from @lms.com are genuine.
However, these protections only work if your email system is configured to check them. We will be contacting all firms, and their Panel Link Membership Manage with a separate email that outlines simple steps you can take to protect your organisation from non-legitimate emails that purport to be from LMS but are in fact spoofed.
LMS has SPF and DKIM authentication enabled for all emails sent from @lms.com addresses. Think of these as digital security seals that prove an email is genuinely from us and hasn’t been tampered with. Every legitimate email from LMS.com carries these verifiable credentials.
Summary. We have systems in place to make it harder for criminals to impersonate LMS. By following the guidance in the distributed email, you can ensure your organisation benefits from these protections. The combination of our security measures and your vigilance create a strong defence against email fraud.
If you have any questions about these security measures or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your continued partnership and vigilance.
Best regards,
IT Operations Team
